Intentional MVMT Among Inaugural 50 Opportunity Champions in #CLT

It's going to take all of us to realize our community’s North Star goal: Within a generation, every child in Charlotte-Mecklenburg will have an equal chance to achieve social and economic success. Join the movement.

Marking the 2-year anniversary of the release of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Task Force Report and the creation of Leading on Opportunity, The Foundation For The Carolinas paused to reflect on the ways our city is already reshaping the way the community looks at economic mobility.

Nearly 500 people gathered at Founders Hall to focus on the theme: Connect, Convene, Empower to hear an update on the progress in our community. As part of the event, Leading on Opportunity honored 50 Inaugural Opportunity Champions in the Queen City. Through words and action these community leaders stepped in, going above and beyond to support implementation and align to one or more of the 21 community-inspired strategies within the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Opportunity Task Force Report.

“We are honored to be among the 50 Inaugural Opportunity Champions highlighted by Leading on Opportunity. It is a snapshot of all of the organizations and key community leaders making an impact in our city day in and day out. We look forward to continuing to doing our part. We encourage others to join us in investing in building a stronger equitable community for all our children, youth and families,” said Jon Davis from Intentional MVMT.

Intentional Movement for Social Capital

In October 2018, Intentional MVMT, the Wells Fargo Foundation, Foundation For The Carolinas and the Center for Intentional Leadership partnered to create the first Intentional Movement Expedition. This inaugural trip took place in the Mammoth Lakes area and Inyo National Forest in California. Eleven Charlotte leaders traveled to California to get outside, hike and use the time together to initiate a community-wide movement around sharing opportunity, relationships and networks across Charlotte’s business, social service and civic practices.

A documentary was filmed during the Expedition that will be released to the public this fall. Sign up for our email list (scroll to bottom of page) to learn more about the documentary release event. In the meantime, you can watch the documentary trailer here.

We are looking forward to sharing this story so the entire community can use it as way to support efforts of Leading on Opportunity and many other organizations and community members that are making a difference. Enjoy more images from many of these leaders at the Leading on Opportunity event.
